Have you heard of the uber popular Twitter party #FoodieChats?
It’s a Twitter party that takes place every Monday at 7pm CST and is led by SteveGoGreen. Each week, the Twitter party accompanies a real live event as well and I was fortunate to have been picked by Katy of Naner-a-Day to go as her date to this event. This week’s special theme was near and dear to my heart – something I absolutely LOVE and was therefore super excited about going – Breakfast for Dinner – taking place at Yolk Chicago, one of the the best breakfast spots in Chicago.
I arrived to the restaurant right around 5:30p – right after work. It’s a gorgeous day and I loved walking over. Upon arrival, I was greeted by Katy and Steve along with a delicious glass of Mimosa. Oh yeah, we are in full on brunch-for-dinner mode now! And I’m loving every bit of it. I’m usually not a big Mimosa fan but this one was very very good!
After a glass of this rejuvenating elixir, came out a server dressed as a Yolk to give out little samples of french toast. There were lemon poppy seed, banana nut, and orange something. I tried the first two flavors and they were very good!
After mingling with the other attendees, we finally got to order – and we were able to order anything we wanted from the menu! So many choices… but I decided on the Iron Man Omelette which was egg whites, mushrooms, avocado, and some other veggies. I got this omelette with a side of fruit and pancakes.
Well I can’t say I finished the whole thing, this was very filling – but I was happy to be able to take it home to eat for breakfast today. I, for one, love leftovers!
We got asked whether we wanted to order french toast for our table as well… and when she mentioned the name “Red Velvet French Toast” we immediately said Yes! I haven’t ever had french toast like that and who are we to say No to the girl anyway Bring on the french toast!
Okay, I actually don’t know if the above picture is of Red Velvet french toast, I took it earlier in the evening but I have a feeling it MIGHT be. Well, how it actually looked like is…
Oh my gosh! I know right? DROOL! Seriously, who are these people?! Yolk Chicago is a freaking genius! I absolutely loved the filling. Dessert for breakfast for dinner? Umm, yes please!
The best part of it all was that it wasn’t overly sweet! I suspected it would be unbearably sweet – as you can expect with french toast… or red velvet. But it wasn’t! It was just right and I was very pleased.
Then the FoodieChats action started.
After this response, a girl and her food blogger stood up to found me because apparently we start our day the same way! Yay new friends!
Then came a Bacon question. Which I am not a fan of, haha. Moving on…
Things were getting extra yummy….
Those are some tidbits from the chat. I dipped out a little early with hopes of avoiding the rain. Check out these crazy clouds! It smelled and felt like rain too. I might have even felt a drop or two.
But yeah, the rain never came. This weather is just too confusing for its own good. I like rain. Come to me!
