Hey everyone! I finally made it back home from my extended weekend in Minnesota! As promised, I have a full recap for you of my time there – starting with the very reason for going aka Healthy Living Summit 2013!
My mom had a symposium in Bloomington, MN that Monday after my summit so it was perfect timing. I convinced my parents that they needed a vacation too so we ended up all driving there together and stayed at the hotel together. It was a win-win! 😉
The drive was long. 6 hours on the highway coming from northwest suburbs of Chicago to downtown Minneapolis. I slept some of the way there thankfully and we did not hit any traffic on the way there so we managed to get in right on time.
Here’s the view from our hotel window. It’s only the 5th floor (out of like 25) in the Hilton but it was a gorgeous view anyway. I couldn’t help but notice how familiar Minneapolis felt. It was like mini Chicago except cuter and cleaner.
I checked out some mini demos upon registering and picking up my swag bag. Then it was time to get ready for a fit-mingle which consisted of dinner and cocktail party.
The dinner took place in an AWESOME bar/restaurant in downtown Minneapolis called Hell’s Kitchen. This place was so cool! The whole interior was all going with the theme of Hell. It was very alternative and very very awesome.
We had a game – each participant was given an index card with a name of one of the duos or trios and we had to find the other one/two people and take a picture together in the photo booth. I had Harry Potter so I had to find Ron and Hermionie. It was HARD but I finally managed to find who I was looking for 🙂
The day started early. We had breakfast early and I was looking forward to what would be served.
There was a lot to choose from! I chose a bit of a skillet, a biscuit, fruit, oatmeal and green smoothie. The smoothie was AMAZING.
Then the presentations and panels started. They were all very interesting and informative. I learned about taking the blog to the next level, to creating better videos, and health and nutrition in general. The speakers were good and engaging.
We were served snacks in between each but I was full from breakfast so I just waited until lunch… which was SO great!
They had a taco bar, and there were many salads to choose from which was cool but the coolest thing was that they had a do-it-yourself soup bar! You put whatever you wanted in a bowl and they just added a broth or cream base soup. I like the creativity. Then the dessert table… do you see that chocolate cake? Dreamy.
More speakers went on to discuss various topics related to healthy living and blogging. There was always time between each session to check out the sponsored if we wanted. Sponsors were definitely one of the best parts of the summit – free swag! And it wasn’t just a little bit of swag, it was legit big amounts of AWESOME swag!
Those are not even all of the sponsors. I loved the energy and the foodie heaven!
The night ended at 5:30pm. Nicole, Ari, Katie, Kristi and I decided to go out for dinner and drinks. We went to get dinner at The Local, where we were given a very nice kind-of private section of the restaurant. I ordered a veggie burger and it was delicious. The salad on the side was very good too.
The Local is a whiskey bar which made me happy since I’m a whiskey girl.
We wanted to get some more drinks and since Hell’s Kitchen had such a great drink menu with infused liquors we decided to make our way back there for round 2. We met up with other bloggers over there as well.
The last day of the summit started with a breakfast and announcements.
I already cannot wait for next year! I am so excited 🙂
