I have an undying love for kefir. You know this. Especially if we’re talking about frozen kefir – it is one of my favorite healthy treats. You already know this by the obnoxious amount of Instagram photos I post of my Starfruit treats. It’s love.
Remember my excitement when I found out my beloved kefir company, Lifeway, put their frozen kefir in pints and started selling it in stores? Well, now they are even cooler because they took their frozen kefir and started selling it in pre-portioned convertible packs with the name “Lifeway Probugs.” Sure, it’s geared toward kids cause it’s yummy, healthy, and fun. Well guess what, I am a kid at heart and no one can take my kefir away from me! Not even targeted marketing. I’m sticking my head in there and I’m staying there and that’s FINAL! 🙂
There are a ton of reasons of why I love kefir which I listed in one of my first posts. I’ve loved it way before I even started Sensual Appeal. It’s not just delicious, it is also 99% lactose-free and has 12 live active cultures per cup. It’s probiotic goodness! It’s easy to feel confused when you eat it, because it’s so darn good and good for you, it can be confusing. But it’s true. It has a ton of protein AND a ton of flavors available for their original kefir.
The Lifeway Probugs they launched are available in three flavors and I tried their strawberry banana flavor. My dad had a hilarious face when he first tried it, he wasn’t expecting it to be tangy. But after one lick, he pretty much inhaled the rest of the package. He told me to tell you all that “he approves.”
To make frozen kefir even better, I decided to make it into a fun recipe. I love me my protein shakes and I especially love making them extra delicious so people don’t even know they are drinking (or actually eating, cause it’s so thick) a good-for-you smoothie!
Strawberry Banana Protein Smoothie (makes 2-3 servings)
- 1 Lifeway Probugs strawberry banana, frozen
- half of frozen banana
- strawberries, frozen but slightly thawed
- 1/2 scoop vanilla protein powder
- 1/3 cup vanilla almond milk
- 2-3 ice cubes
Blend it all up in a blender on high! This makes a delicious smoothie that is SO thick, it can be eaten as dessert – I usually eat it as a treat and I like to top mine with extra cinnamon and maybe even some chocolate chips! Enjoy!
