Hello friends and happy Monday! I hope you guys all have a marvelous Monday ahead! Happy Columbus Day and if you’re off work.. well then that’s awesome for you, enjoy it!
If you’ve been following my blog from the beginning you know I was a big Jay Robb protein powder fan from the start. He calls his products “the best tasting protein in the planet” (I can see why) and they are sweetened with stevia and contain all natural ingredients. I used to get his chocolate whey powders (yummy) and then his vanilla egg white protein powder (double yum). I recently got to try other flavors of his whey protein and his protein BARS as well: peanut butter, cashew coconut, and fudge brownie. My favorite of these was the peanut butter! Pictured below is the fudge brownie.
The bars are pretty good but they are too dense and have too many calories for me. They don’t contain any junk ingredients though and are high in protein (~14g). They range from 200-240 calories though and that can sometimes but fine if’ it’s just a lunch for me but it’s too many calories for as a regular snack. The flavor is pretty good too although nothing earth-shattering.
I got to try each of the whey protein packets although I already knew chocolate and vanilla rocked but I was definitely curious as to trying the other three: strawberry, orange creamsicle, and pina colada. I’ve been curious but too afraid they would disappoint me to actually buy them. To my big surprise, they ALL were delicious! Like, I was stunned. I already think Jay Robb’s protein powders taste the best of all protein powders I’ve had but they nailed these flavors. I’m not a huge orange dreamsicle fan overall (not even the actual thing) so I probably wouldn’t buy that one, but the strawberry was awesome (although a bit subtle, could be stronger flavored) but I was really stunned with the pina colada. I’m really glad I made it into a pina colada soft serve… well it was going to be a protein shake but I wanted it extra thick and creamy so I made it happen… wow, I was really surprised at how delicious it came out. And I AM NOT a fan of pina coladas usually.. not the drink. Or maybe my tastes have changed again since the last time I’ve had one.. who knows.
By throwing in extra ice cubes and some gums to the mix, not to mention the frozen banana, this cocoction came out perfect… super thick and creamy… it was the ultimate recovery dessert. I was very pleased.
Naturally, I am a topping whore and I had to add a topping of some sort to this delicious beauty. I have recently been obsessed with Trader Joe’s puffed wheat cereal. It is amazing. Thank you Katie for recommending it, I have been in love ever since. It is slightly sweet from agave and simply delicious. Plus it is only 100 calories per cup!
Oh yes, the thickness… you best believe it was like legit soft serve. So darn good. And I DO NOT have a vitamix (sadly). My old school blender did the job beautifully indeed. Mama’s proud.

Ingredients (serves 1)
- 5-6 ice cubes
- 2/3 frozen banana
- 1 scoop Pina Colada whey protein powder
- 1/4 tsp xanthan gum
- 1/4 tsp agar powder
- 1 Tbsp reduced fat shredded coconut (I used this one)
- 1/2 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
- topping: cinnamon, puffed wheat cereal, coconut butter
Instructions
Put everything in the blender in the order listed and blend for 2-3 minutes until the outcome is creamy and thick. Start with less almond milk at first and add more to get the mixture blended well if it gets stuck from not having enough liquid. Sprinkle with cinnamon and top with puffed wheat cereal. Add an additional Tbsp of coconut butter if you’d like some extra healthy fats in there.
