I had the pleasure of attending a fabulous little event for us Chicago food bloggers last Saturday morning. A popular Chicago bar/restaurant, Public House Chicago, was hosting a Brunch with a tasting – and given that I haven’t tried the food there yet, I was excited to get my nosh on. (Is that a saying? I feel like I just made that up.. Oh well)
I saw Kate right when I walked in and sat next to her in a booth. What are the odds? I feel like I see this girl at every event I go to and I love it, haha. It’s good to know at least one person when you go somewhere by yourself.
The Public House Chicago’s Executive Chef came out in the beginning and introduced us to what we will be tasting. I couldn’t wait! Didn’t help that I was also pretty darn hungry at that time.
I loved the marketing idea they did for this. They had a big printed menu with space to write some blurbs about each item we try for ourselves as well as mark if we post about any of the items during the event. I thought it was brilliant!
Before the buffet was opened, we were given passed appetizers in the form of egg sandwiches. Chef called it an Egg McMuffin type of thing. They were definitely better than that junk food could ever be. I liked the bun and the egg. I had a bite of the pork sausage but didn’t eat it because I don’t ever EVER eat pork. I just wanted to try and see if I maybe changed my mind.. nope. Still not worth it. Haha.
The buffet was finally open! Yay!
There was a lot to choose from and I made sure to take a little bit of everything (except the sausage), I like to try new things. (Side note: I also thought the decor in this place is really cool. This is a pic of the draft pour thingy that was decorative and it was near the buffet)
Unfortunately the lighting was quite harsh so the photos aren’t looking the best from the buffet area but here are some:
Chicken and waffles – never tried it before!
Yogurt parfaits – I don’t really eat straight dairy anymore but if I’m tasting things I’m gonna go for it.
Crab cakes with quail egg! So creative.
So yeah, there’s a lot of food to be tested.
Unfortunately I didn’t like chicken and waffles; the chicken was way too fatty for me and had the bone in and I just don’t like chicken like that. I liked the waffles though. I just ate the waffle by itself.. well with the maple syrup and hot sauce. Interesting combo, that’s for sure.
The donut french toast thing (middle) was okay. The donut itself was nothing special to me, but I’m not a big fan of traditional donuts so that’s probably why. I LOVED the cream sauce topping though, that was amazing!
There was also this sticky bun that was my favorite (after the yogurt parfait) – it was a hot and sweet and sticky mess. You know my sugar-loving self enjoyed that.
This crab cake was amazing! It was a LOT of crab and the quail egg tasted like regular egg to me, it was just super small so that was fun. Great option here, I would eat this again.
As I mentioned, I don’t like sausage. The “Egg McMuffin” egg sandwich one wasn’t for me.
All in all, fun event. Good food. Good company.
