This is a fail-proof spicy baked sweet potato fries recipe with a delicious cinnamon sugar yogurt dip on the side. The perfect combination of spicy and sweet… what could be better?
After my success with making sweet potato chips, I still had one more sweet potato to go. And there is also one more thing I’ve been meaning to do with it… what else if not sweet potato FRIES? Baked, of course. Never fried 😉 I don’t need all that extra grease and fat, no sirreee!
Anyway, I wanted to keep this combo different than my last. My chips were spicy and savory. I wanted to keep a twist on flavor combinations though, especially since I love combining various flavors together. So I what better way than to do it spicy and sweet? Truth, I’ve never had sweet potatoes as sweet – always savory. This is my delicate shift to eating it a bit more on the sweet side, by using a sweet dip.
When I was making this dip and tasted it, it made me think of Fall. And winter too, actually. Not entirely sure why but I think the flavor of cinnamon and sugar just brings Christmasy feelings and thoughts to my head. That’s normal right? Yeah, anyway, the dip is simply delicious. It can be easily made vegan by using soy yogurt. I recommend using high protein yogurts if you are vegan so that the protein + cinnamon combo balanced out the sweet potato’s high glycemic index. If you combine high GI foods with protein, the general overall GI of the combo goes down. I don’t know the exact ways how it works, but I know it works like this. So yeah 🙂 I try to implement this whenever possible. And it’s so easy to do in this situation!
I added a whole lot of cayenne and my mouth was on fire from the spicyness of the sweet potato fries. Thankfully the sweet cold dip was soothing and calmed my sense down. It was an awesome combination.
