Over the weekend (Sunday & Monday) my parents and I took a trip to Central Illinois to visit the Amish country. You can see more about my trip in my previous post here. Now, I thought I’d share some eats I had over there. Unfortunately, it’s nothing too special – pretty common food actually. But yeah :

I woke up on Sunday morning and after my weight session, I loaded up on protein with one egg and two egg whites, onions, and cucumbers. Topped with salsa. Green tea on the side.

In the car, on our way there, I had a Peanut Butter flavored nimble energy bar. So freaking delicious. Make sure you enter in my giveaway for those babies (+more), by the way.

I was surprised how much my dog, Cookie, loved being in the car. She wasn’t nervous or scared whatsover. She loved the whole ride there (and back).

As soon as we go to the cabin, I had a bit of cottage cheese and strawberry jam with pecans that my mom prepared for us before the trip. Then, I had some dark chocolate covered goji. I was pretty hungry.

Then we made a trip to the grocery store for food to make on the grill and fire. We also bought grapes which I gladly ate upon getting back. It was also already 5pm, perfect time to start drinking some beer. We’re on vacation after all!

I haven’t had BBQ in a WHILE so it was pretty awesome. I had a turkey sausage, grilled onions and mushrooms and some tomatoes. Unfortunately, I was not a huge fan of the sausage. I don’t really like sausage, or meat that much, so yeah. It was a reminder that I don’t really like it, I guess. My dad had the crazy big ass steaks off the grill. He’s a madman! haha They were so HUGE!

When it got dark out, we got the fire going and made the rest of the sausages. Not bad, not bad. Although polish sausages (the REAL polish sausages) would have turned out much better, as far as I remember (from Poland) and my dad kept repeating it over and over.

Monday, after a fun badminton session with my mom we had breakfast. Two Amish eggs and tomatoes.

Followed by a snack of more grapes from the day before.

When we got to Arthur, IL – the main Amish town – we visited a few shops and got some sucrose-free chocolate fudge with nuts. It was decent. Honestly, none of us were crazy about it. Oh well.

Then we went home. I didn’t record the rest of the meals cause they were boring. Sorry 😛

Make sure you enter in my giveaway for the Nimble bars and QuickieChick giftbag!

Also, today is the last day to enter my giveaway for the TFX NonStick Reusable Parchment paper!

  1. Happy WIAW! Sounds like a fun trip! 🙂

  2. My goodness, your dog is adorable!!! I am a sucker for cute animals :-)!! And I am so jealous of your trip! That’s awesome and definitely something I’d want to do one day! That fudge looks great and by golly, your grapes photograph beautifully!

  3. You’re so lucky you got to go to Amish country! I’ve always wanted to go live amongst them for awhile….I’m pretty much in love with your dog. How cute! So would you reccommend a trip out to Amish Country? I thought it was really funny that you find antiques creepy 🙂

    • Well it was an interesting experience. I definitely recommend going out there just to see! It’s a totally different world – instead of cars they all have horses. But then I saw some Amish in cars too so it was weird. But either way it’s entirely different than being in a city, that’s for sure. You should go see and form your own opinion though especially since you’ve wanted to live amongst them! 🙂

  4. The fudge looks so good and love the teeny grapes, so cute!

  5. Dark chocolate goji berries? I must find them! I love to grill. Spring, summer and fall I think we cook more on the grill than on the stove.

    • I love it! The grill is where it’s at. I wish I had a balcony or patio in my apartment so I could do it much more than just when I go over to someone’s house with a grill. & I found the Goji online, I think LuckyVitamin has them.

  6. Yayyyyyy for running yolks! You know your audience girl (or at least one member of it) 😉

  7. Your cottage cheese snack sounds like a totally delicious combo!

  8. Everything looks great, especially the fudge. But I guess it wasn’t?

  9. Amish whoopie pies girl! They’re amazing!!! And since they’re amish, you don’t have to worry about lard or other crazy preservatives!
