It's so easy to go a bit mad when it comes to eating.
You might go out with your friends and indulge in a delicious meal and stay for dessert as it can be so tempting when there is lots of choice.
Or you might have a night in and have a scrumptious takeaway.
As you are at home, it's easy to eat way more than you need, especially if you are watching a TV show or a movie.
If you're concentrating on the TV, you can consume a lot without thinking.
However, you tend to feel really bad about overeating the next day.
You might have packed on the pounds due to that night of overeating. But that night of heavy eating doesn't mean you will be crying on the scales.
Here is what to do the next day after overeating to ensure you don't pack on the pounds.
Do some exercise
The first thing you can do if you have overeaten the night before is to do some exercise. After all, it can help you to get rid of those excess calories you had last night so the fallout from overeating won't be so bad.
As soon as you wake up, you should go for a refreshing run. Not only will some fresh air do you good, running will also stop you piling on the pounds. It works your whole body so you will feel more toned after running.
You might also want to do some other cardio which is perfect for shedding the pounds. Add some strength training to your workout as this is great for toning your body.
A lot of people think that weights are just useful for building muscles, but they are also great for helping you to shed excess fat. In fact, doing some weight training can really burn those calories.
It's always good to do some yoga or pilates if you want to tone up.
If you are feeling really bloated from all that fast-food the night before, doing some poses will really help you to ease that stomach back to normal. It can also help you to cut some of those pounds so you don't have such a shock when you next get on the scales.
Detox for the day
Another thing you can do after a night of heavy eating is detox.
This can help you to refresh and rejuvenate, and you will feel fantastic if you do have a day of detoxing.
A lot of people don't know how to detox.
In fact, they often make the error of just skipping all food and drink for the day. But this is not healthy and could result in you packing on the pounds once you start eating properly again.
Detoxing is often mistaken for being really difficult, but it's easier than you think.
For starters, you need to make sure you drink a lot of water throughout the day.
You can add a lemon to the drink which can give an extra boost for getting rid of the toxins from your body.
If you want another drink during the day, you can also consume a green tea or herbal tea. These are both excellent for letting your body restart and you will feel a lot healthier after drinking it.
As for foods, avoid sugar and carbs for the day. Instead, you need to go for fruit and veg.
For me ofc the best way around this is by having smoothies for the entire day or even for a few days.
You might want to make a vegetable juice from kale, carrot or spinach which will be excellent for getting those nutrients you need. Alternatively, opt for raw fruit and veg which can often help digestion. That way, all that grub you ate will be absorbed better.
Remember you should try and be positive when detoxing. Getting rid of all the stress from your body will help the excess food move through your body and will leave you feeling refreshed and relaxed.
Get some rest
A lot of people think that heading to bed will mean that they have no chance of shedding those extra pounds after overeating.
Sleep often can be vital when it comes to losing weight as it gives your body time to digest the food properly so you will feel less bloated and groggy when you wake up.
It's also been found that if you have decent sleep, you are less likely to eat a lot the next day.
When we are exhausted, we feel we need a sugary snack to give us energy.
You need to have at least seven or eight hours kip to give your body time to reboot. So, if you didn't get that amount last night after overeating, make time for a quick nap.
Head to bed in the evening no later than 9pm to ensure you have a great night of sleep.
With some proper sleep, you will find that you feel a lot better and your body will be ready to move on after overeating.
Remember not to hate yourself for indulging
It's so easy to guilt trip ourselves after overeating.
But we all have an off day where we want to consume a lot of food and as long as this is only an occasional occurrence, it shouldn't do any harm.
