I’m trying to eat more adult food. I’m still transitioning to being a real adult, I think, and my diet has consisted of mostly yogurt, cereal, fruit, eggs… sometimes a sandwich here and there. And then whenever I would go out to eat with friends. There was never home-cooked real meals. The only time I had real dinners was if I went out to eat or I was in the suburbs at my parents’ house. So yeah… barely ever.
So yeah, I’m trying to use my crock pot more and make dinners so that I am not tempted to eat the easy grabs that end up being much higher in sugar. I am trying to minimize my sugar intake. Just because it’s mostly natural sugars doesn’t mean it’s good for you. Sugar is never good for you and I know that sugar is the reason why I struggle to stay at a healthy weight.
So my first adult food started when I found Lindsay’s recipe for Greek Yogurt Chicken. I made it and it was simply fantastic. I used guacamole instead of avocado. It was very easy to prepare and tasted great!
I also thoroughly enjoyed it in a pita wrap. This recipe got me addicted to sriracha, by the way. It was my first time trying and I was so glad I did – so good!
Then I bought ground turkey breast and wanted to make something in the Crock Pot with it. It was totally recipe-free and just on a whim. I needed more real food to stay on track. Random things went into the crock pot. It was okay but not enough to put the recipe on the blog.
Looks pretty though, right? There’s ground turkey, green beans, broccoli, cauliflower, quinoa… on a lovely bed of greens. It sure does look pretty. This also inspired me to do more with my Crock Pot. Gotta use it since I have it right?
There are a lot of Crock Pot dinner recipes that I looked at and have bookmarked several recipes from these cookbooks. And I have also been eyeing quite a few dinner recipes. I don’t particularly care for paleo but I do wan to eat more real food and this is a great segway into that. Check them out here! They come out to be only $0.52 each until the end of the week!
When I went to visit my parents over the weekend, my mom made her fabulous Cinnamon Apple Cake with Chocolate Chips. I was one happy camper! I love this cake! I love that all the cakes and baked goods she makes are much less in sugar than any traditional ones – she gets it.
Last night, I ended the night on a sweet note to get rid of the rest of the marshmallows and dark chocolate chips I had left over from when I made the Milky Way Rice Krispie Balls. So I made a S’mores Protein Mug Brownie and it was simply glorious. I teased you about it on Instagram 😉 I couldn’t help it.. the chocolatey gooey goodness is just too amazing to resist.
